Anvil Pottery has been working with Andrew and Annelise Fielding as a consultant on working copies of archaeological ceramic salt pans, salt ovens and hearths used for evaporating brine from the Iron Age and Roman periods.
Together with Andrew and Annelise we have built a small ceramic fibre salt glazing kiln, which was been demonstrated at the Clay Art weekend in 2005. See Clay Art video.
We have salt glazed crosses for a special Salt Sunday event inspired by the Bishop of Birkenhead to be held at the Lion Salt Works on Sunday 17th May 2009.
